Mike Callahan
Mike Callahan is an Associate Representative of the SBCA Board of Directors and has been involved in the association for about 10 years. Having served on the Board of Directors for three years now, Mike is very passionate about the association and its goals. In addition to his seat on the Board, he has also previously served on SBCA’s Membership and Marketing Committees.
As a member of the Board, Mike’s goal is to continue increasing membership of the association, helping people get more involved with and understanding of the many benefits of SBCA. “When I believe in something, I like to present it to other people,” says Mike. “I am passionate about this association, and I want to help others do good, as well, which is what SBCA does for this industry.” For Mike, his favorite parts of the industry are the people and the friendliness. Mike has made many friends in this industry and has found the importance of having others to relate to and work with through successes and challenges. As for SBCA, he enjoys the learning aspect of it. “It’s great when you can get all of these people together, who are all doing their own thing and adapting to their markets,” says Mike. “Normally, they don’t get a chance to collaborate with others in the industry day to day. So, learning about areas of the country that I wouldn’t normally work in is really helpful. We all want the same thing, and that’s to provide quality products to the building industry.”
Starting in the family business where his father had a fastener business and worked in the lumber industry, Mike learned a lot. At 19, Mike left to proudly serve the United States in the US Navy, where he was the youngest Enlisted Surface Warfare Quartermaster. This responsibility shaped him into who he is today, and through his time in the Navy, working in lumberyards and in the fastener side of the business, he gained valuable knowledge and experience that he uses today as Director of Sales and Business Development for Kyocera-SENCO Industrial Tools, where he’s worked for 15 years. In this role, Mike focuses on the big picture ideas and lead generation, in addition to managing a team of over 20 people. As such, Mike and his team were honored with the CEO Award for SENCO.
Beyond his passion for this industry, work, and the association, family is important to Mike, and he spends a lot of time with them. He is very proud of his three daughters and six grandchildren, one of whom shares their birthday with him. Mike enjoys spending time on his family farm, where they have chickens, ducks, turkeys, and more. He also likes to watch Jeopardy, enjoys traveling and meeting new people, is a major foodie, is always reading, and according to his wife has a near-photographic memory when recalling topics.
