April 28, 2023: Market Remains Steady Ahead of Spring Build
Justin Binning and Ken Timmins with American International Forest Products (AIFP) provide a snapshot of the current lumber market. Mills are still running at cost, but markets in the West are trending up as buyer activity increases. Fiber substitution is strong at the moment as buyers are looking for value wherever they can find it. Conversely in the South, the SYP market has hit a wall. Both guests agree the Spring build is starting to gain steam, but with the current just-in-time inventory purchasing, demand seems to be working well right now in relation to supply. Justin has been with AIFP since 2010 with a focus in Southern Yellow Pine and Ken has been with AIFP since 2017, specializing in Fir species. Both specialize in high grade lumber for the component manufacturing industry.
