Builders FirstSource acquired Truckee Tahoe Lumber Co., a family owned business founded in 1931 and based in Reno, Nevada.
Truckee Tahoe Lumber serves the Northern Sierra Nevada region through locations in Truckee, Calif., (including a design center); and in the Nevada locations of Tahoe City, Reno-Sparks, and USA Parkway.
A Builders FirstSource spokeswoman said Truckee Tahoe Lumber “has built a stellar reputation for providing high-quality lumber, building materials, and expert design services.
“Local leadership will remain in place, ensuring continuity and a seamless transition,” the spokeswoman added.
That local leadership includes Andrew Cross, president and CEO, and Ira Cross, vice president. Both represent the fourth generation of the Cross family in the business.
Less than a year ago, Truckee Tahoe Lumber had made an acquisition of its own — acquiring NVO Construction Components and expanding its manufacturing. “Our goal is to offer our framing customers the entire framing materials package,” CEO Andrew Cross said at the time. That goal is compatible with one of Builders FirstSource’s strategic pillars: “organic growth with a focus on value-added products and services.”
From its roots as Cross Lumber Company in San Francisco at the turn of the 20th century, major events of Truckee Tahoe Lumber include its incorporation in 1931, and the 1960 Winter Olympics. During those games, Truckee Tahoe Lumber served as a lumber supplier for the Olympic Village and other projects. Growth took off from there, for both the lumberyard and the region.
The acquisition, terms of which were not revealed, expands on Builders FirstSource’s presence in the Reno market. The nation’s largest prodealer made two nearby acquisitions in 2014. It acquired Reno Truss in August; and it acquired High Mountain Door & Trim in October.
