Editor's Message: Make the Most of Your Membership
Getting Involved and Engaged to Better Your Business
We are somehow already halfway through the month of March, which is incredibly difficult to believe. I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun…or are really busy! As we dive deeper into 2025, I am excited to share the fantastic content we have lined up to keep you informed, connected, and equipped with the tools you need to thrive in today’s fast-paced and evolving industry. But this is just one aspect of SBCA – there is so much more! This year we want to continue fostering connections, expanding knowledge, and encouraging every member to make the most of their SBCA membership. Whether you’re new to the group or a seasoned veteran, the range of ways to engage and participate in 2025 is better than ever.
To begin with, the association would not be able to do what it does without its members, and we are grateful to have a community of people who care so deeply about this industry and what they do. But with the daily grind, it can be easy to forget that SCBA is here and available to its membership in a variety of ways. SBCA membership isn’t just a passive resource – it’s a platform designed to connect you to invaluable opportunities, insights, and industry connections. To get the most out of it, it is important to engage.
There are so many ways to get involved and make the most of your SBCA membership, and by reading this magazine you’re doing one of them. The magazine is just one piece of SBCA Media though – we also offer weekly Industry News and bi-monthly Framing News, keeping you abreast of the happenings in the broader construction and framing industry and the news related to it so you can stay in the know and make informed decisions for your business. Additionally, our newest magazine, NFC’s Framing Today, offers content tailored to framing professionals. There are also two SBCA-produced podcasts: the Lumber Connection Podcast, where the pulse of the lumber market is discussed and the Component Connection Podcast, where listeners can glean valuable nuggets from CM or industry expert interviews. Whether you prefer reading, listening, or watching, SBCA Media has something for everyone to keep you informed and engaged.
Another great way to get involved is by attending SBCA events like our Open Quarterly Meetings (OQMs) and BCMC. These gatherings are where the magic happens: networking, learning, and sharing ideas with people from across the country with different experiences to pull from. The power of face-to-face connection can’t be overstated, and these events are the prime place to build lasting relationships with others who understand your challenges and goals.
Going beyond events, you can get involved in committees. This is where a lot of the action happens, and your input can have a huge impact on shaping the direction of our association and this industry. Whether you’re interested in safety, education, advocacy, quality control, or marketing, there certainly is a committee for you (see all committees at sbcacomponents.com/board-and-committees). If you’re unsure of which committee you’d like to join, you can first observe different committees and see what they’re all about and what they do, and then decide which ones you’d like to join.
Of course, there is also participating in SBCA’s Digital QC program, which is included in SBCA membership. This In-Plant Quality Control tool eliminates the need for vellum paper and pencils, saves time on inspections, increases efficiency, provides instant results and feedback, and enhances the overall QC process and product quality.
SBCA membership offers so much more than meets the eye. With access to networking, education, technical resources, and exclusive content, it’s important to stay connected, learn, and grow with industry peers. It’s all there for you – you just have to dive in.
As you read through this issue, take a moment to reflect on how you can engage more fully with SBCA this year. There’s a whole world of resources at your fingertips, and you’re already ahead of the game with this magazine. We look forward to providing members with the best experience and value we can. Learn more at www.sbcacomponents.com. Here’s to making the most of your membership!
