Dive Brief:
- Toledo, Ohio-based Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, which specializes in laser scanning and maintenance for infrastructure, has acquired Existing Conditions, a Boston-based 3D BIM modeling firm, GPRS announced on July 31.
- Existing Conditions uses state-of-the-art technology and processes to deliver point clouds, as-built drawings and 3D BIM models to its customers in the building industry, according to the announcement.
- The Existing Conditions deal marks the tenth acquisition for GPRS, which has been in business since 2001. Last year, it added TruePoint Laser Scanning to its portfolio, allowing it to serve customers in subsurface locating and above-ground mapping. GPRS specializes in utility locating, concrete scanning, video pipe inspection and leak detection, among other modeling services.
Dive Insight:
GPRS plans to integrate the Existing Conditions team over time, as it helps the firm expand its service line in 3D laser scanning and BIM modeling, according to Christian Wagenhauser, marketing associate at GPRS.
GPRS counts New York City-based Turner Construction, Dallas-based AECOM and Montreal-based WSP among its clients, the company said.
With the acquisition, GPRS can double the size of its 3D Laser and Mapping & Modeling teams, according to Jason Schaff, the corporation’s chief strategy officer, in a follow-up news release.
“Existing Conditions is one of the country’s premier visualization firms,” Schaff said in the release. “This acquisition means we can put our considerable resources behind their outstanding work.”
GPRS isn’t the only firm to make a 2024 move — in May, Trimble, the Westminster, Colorado-based contech giant, acquired payments and compliance platform Flashtract, its third acquisition in just over a year.
