Join framers and component manufacturers as we explore this question and discuss why building materials are often blamed for fires, particularly those that occur in buildings under construction, and why the finger doesn’t get pointed elsewhere. Panelists will discuss the many different ways fires start and provide attendees with a better understanding of root causes, which will help solve fire risks during construction with the goal to prevent fires from occurring.
Speakers:
- Scott Stevens, president of Modu Tech, a building technology company based in Baltimore, has spent over 30 years in the forest products industry. He began in the lumber manufacturing sector and has come full circle running a wood truss and wall panel plant as well as a lumber yard. Scott also serves as a Director of the National Framers Council.
- Kirk Grundahl, P.E., SECB serves as the Executive Director of the Structural Building Components Association (SBCA) and spends a large portion of his time traveling and making educational presentations on behalf of this international organization. Kirk’s experience with unprotected fires and ASTM E119 assemblies began with authoring the National Engineered Lightweight Construction Fire Research Project. Kirk is a registered Professional Engineer and has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
