SBCA Editor’s Note: SBCA and the SBCA Georgia Chapter share their condolences with the Powell family as the industry mourns the recent and sudden loss of Steven Powell. Steven Powell was an active member of the SBCA Georgia Chapter, attended BCMC every year, and was a dedicated contributor to the industry and his company, North GA Truss. He will be missed by the industry, the association, and the SBCA Georgia Chapter. Steven’s full obituary can be found below, along with information about his memorial service and condolences. Steven Boyd Powell, 52, true and faithful servant of the Lord, loving husband, devoted father, wonderful friend, went to be with his heavenly father on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Steven was born April 4, 1972, in Austell, Georgia, son of the late Thomas Powell and the late Darby Stills. Steven grew up in Greeneville, Tennessee, moving to Cartersville, Georgia, in 2005.
Steven was an energetic and magnetic person who shared his faith and love for his family at every opportunity. To know Steven was to love him.
Steven’s kindness and compassion for others, along with his generosity, has left a lasting mark on our community. He wholly gave of himself and his resources to help those around him. In doing so, he shared the love of Christ in both word and deed. He set an incredible example for his family and all who knew him. No one had to tell you that Steven Powell was a Christian. You knew it by the way he lived his life. Steven loved everyone and his family was the pride of his life.
Steven was a proud and active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He considered the people of Tabernacle family, and he delighted in worshiping and serving alongside them.
In 2010, Steven founded North Georgia Truss Systems based in Cartersville, Georgia. He became a key figure in the local business community.
He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Powell, his mother, Darby Stills, and his stepfather, Dale Stills, his brother, Frank Powell, and his sister, Carmen Potter. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 27 years, Jennifer Carver Powell, son, Landon Joseph Powell, and daughter, Madison Olivia Powell; twin sister, Stephanie (Steven) McCarty, brother Tommy (Lisa) Powell, stepmother, Elizabeth Powell, stepsiblings, Dee Dee Miller, Abby (Israel) Ortiz, John (Gina) Miller, father in law, Joseph (Julie) Carver, mother in law, Freda Carver, brother in law, Michael (Kelly) Waddell, sister in law, Maryanne (Richard) Molton, sister in law, Rachel (John) Koehler, and numerous nieces and nephews, whom called Steven their most favorite uncle ever.

The Pallbearers will be Steve Hall, Mike Kettman, Matt Jimenez, Chad Price, Tim Lee, and Richard Lee. The employees of North Georgia Truss Systems will serve as honorary pallbearers.
