As builders and developers continue to struggle to meet housing demand in the U.S., a new company in the Midwest has launched with the intent of helping build more homes, faster.
Revol Building Solutions, headquartered in Wanatah, IN, debuted earlier this year as a manufacturer of components including roof and floor trusses, wall panels, and custom design solutions for off-site building, geared toward multi- and single-family homes. The company operates from a 180,000-sq.-ft. facility and can offer custom components for jobs as large as 350,000 square feet, down to a 2,500-sq.-ft. starter home, according to Revol.
Seeing a rising need in the homebuilding market for components, co-founders Joshua Ratcliff and Stinson Dean said their focus has been finding solutions for homebuilders to do more work with less labor.
“Off-site building is the future, and I think that if you’re going to be relevant in this industry, that’s the way that you have to shift as well,” Ratcliff said. “Being open to the new technologies, both software and then also the new innovations—we do understand that this is the future, and that’s what we are going to invest in.”
Dean said a major reason for that shift toward off-site building is the continued concerns about the labor pool in the industry, particularly as older generations retire and the number of new skilled laborers declines.
“To solve those workforce trends, your consistent off-site construction is going to be the perfect solution for that,” Dean said. “You’ve seen it in these Midwest markets where that skilled labor has kind of slowly gone away. There does not exist 140-person crews on one job site like you can find in Orlando, FL. Those don’t exist here. I think you’re going to see that trend of off-site construction start to work its way south into those markets that traditionally rely on large on site crews.”
Building from the assets of Continental Components, General Manager Jason O’Brien has been focused on building the team and company culture, along with building the company’s customer base. For now, the company serves the Midwest, with an eye to grown in the future through new additional locations and acquisitions.
“I am excited for the opportunity to be part of the incredible team and ownership at Revol Building Solutions,” O’Brien said. “The possibilities that Revol will bring to the industry are limitless.”
