Tom Kurowski
Tom Kurowski is an At-Large Representative of the SBCA Board of Directors and has been involved in the association for over seven years. Throughout that time, he has participated in several committees, but the one he is most passionate about is Membership. One of Tom’s goals as a member of SBCA is to continue to drive membership growth and engagement, and to contribute to solving the industry’s challenges to the best of his ability and knowledge.
With such a passion for the industry, there are many aspects that can be called a favorite, but like so many others, Tom’s favorite part of the industry is the people. “There is a camaraderie among the truss industry that is unmatched anywhere else,” says Tom. “Moreover, the SBCA is an extension of that truss family.” His favorite part of SBCA is how the organization can bring all different truss manufacturers from across the country together to work on industry issues together. It is important to have these connections – they shape and drive this industry forward every day, making it better with each collaborative effort.
Prior to his time in the structural building components industry, Tom was involved in the fiber cement industry with James Hardie Building Products and the wallboard industry with USG. One day, he answered a phone call and at the other end was US LBM looking for a director of manufacturing – the rest was history. Today, Tom has been with US LBM for eight years as the Director of Manufacturing, and in his role, oversees manufacturing for US LBM, which includes roof and floor trusses, wall panels, doors, and millwork.
Tom earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Arizona, and also holds a Lean Six Sigma certification. Beyond work and the association, Tom enjoys watching baseball and has proudly been to every Major League Baseball stadium in the United States, and even a few in Japan. In part, his passion for baseball is due to Tom’s great uncle who played baseball for the Cardinals in the 1940s and hit a World Series winning home run versus the Yankees. Aside from his love of baseball, Tom also enjoys golf, tennis, and is an avid collector of Legos. Tom can be reached at info@sbcacomponents.com.
