SBCA Seeking Recipient Partner and Donors for 2024 National Mall Build

SBCA is pleased to announce that in 2024 it will continue its participation in the Innovative Housing Showcase (IHS) hosted by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). 

For the past two IHS events , SBCA has constructed two-story houses on the National Mall to showcase the many benefits for structural building components, from material efficiency to reductions in construction cycle times. Thousands of people, from lawmakers and agency heads to builders and the public, have walked through SBCA’s structures and marveled at what these offsite structural framing solutions can offer. 

Recipient Partner  

SBCA is currently seeking a partner for IHS 2024 to consult on the building design and to receive the structure once it is deconstructed at the conclusion of the event. In 2022, the first demonstration home was donated to a wilderness camp in Maryland. In 2023, the second demonstration home became two separate, one-story homes that were donated to two Habitat for Humanity affiliates in central Virginia.  

SBCA is soliciting proposals from organizations on how they would use this free structure to further their mission or benefit a local family or community. Proposals can be sent to jess@sbcacomponents.com, the recipient partner will be chosen by February 28, 2024.

In addition, SBCA is proactively seeking component manufacturers and suppliers who may be interested in donating in-kind building materials for the 2024 project, including roof trusses, wall panels, floor trusses, windows, exterior doors, exterior wall and roof sheathing, floor sheathing, loose framing lumber, hardware, fasteners.
