The Detering Company Names Carlos Detering as President & COO

The Detering Company, a Houston-based building materials business established in 1926, announced that Carlos Detering, grandson of the company’s founder, has been named president and chief operating officer.

He brings far reaching achievement from his most recent tenure at South Texas Brick & Stone, and his dynamic leadership will continue to drive The Detering Company in taking advantage of new and expanding markets,” said Carl Detering, Jr., who will remain chairman and CEO of the companies.

Carlos joined The Detering Company in 2012. After working in the millwork business, he joined South Texas Brick & Stone following the Detering family’s acquisition of the company in 2014. As General Manager of STB&S, Carlos successfully expanded upon a highly accomplished team, grew the customer base, and entered new markets in both Austin, San Antonio & the Hill Country.

“I grew up at the company spending summers sweeping the warehouse & pulling doors alongside many of the employees that are still here today,” says Carlos. “The Company has undergone significant growth over the last decade moving into new products, new markets and attracting top industry talent. The Detering company has two locations servicing builders and remodelers with millwork, windows and the newly added lumber mix in Houston and College Station. South Texas Brick & Stone is a masonry supply business selling antique and manufactured brick, stone, and fireplaces in Houston, Austin, San Antonio and the Hill Country.
