Structural building components will have a prominent place at NAHB’s International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, February 25-27, 2025. Over the course of three days, SBCA and its partners will offer several education sessions focused on the capabilities of today’s component manufacturer and the many benefits their products and services bring to home builders.
Thanks to a collaborative partnership between SBCA, US LBM, and MiTek, innovative roof trusses, wall panels, and floor truss panels will be on display in the NAHB Construction Performance Zone on the IBS show floor. SBCA is also a sponsor of the NAHB’s Building Systems Councils’ Lounge, an area off the show floor dedicated to systems-built approaches like manufactured components. SBCA will have a space in the BSC Lounge to draw attention to the full continuum of structural component adoption, from roof and floor trusses to wall panels, floor panels, and roof panels.
If you are going to be attending the IBS show, we’d love to hear from you. Reach out to us at editor@sbcacomponents.com. Also, make sure to put the following events in your schedule and attend as many as you can to support the industry - you can add the sessions to your schedule directly in the IBS app!
Title: Framing Study: Measuring How Trusses Speed Up MEP Installation
Date & Time: Tuesday, February 25, 9:30-10:00 AM Pacific Time
Speakers: Joseph Murphy (MiTek); Alex Northam (Taylor Morrison); Sean Shields (SBCA); and, Nate Steere (Buffalo Framing & Truss)
Location: LVCC - IBS Construction Performance Zone - SU1107
Summary: Explore the results of a recent framing comparison that highlights how roof and floor trusses can accelerate not just framing, but also the installation of HVAC mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems. This presentation discusses the collected data and shares how builders and framers can benefit from incorporating these offsite manufactured framing methods into their projects.

Title: Framing the American Dream: A Real-World Side-by-Side Comparison of Stick vs. Component
Date & Time: Tuesday, February 25, 4:00-5:00 PM Pacific Time
Speakers: Joseph Murphy (MiTek); Alex Northam (Taylor Morrison); Sean Shields (SBCA); and Nate Steere (Buffalo Framing & Truss)Location: LVCC - West 229
Summary: Join us to hear results of the "Framing the American Dream" experiment in which two nearly identical homes were constructed side-by-side in Austin, TX – one entirely through traditional stick-framing, while the other used structural components including roof trusses, wall panels, and floor trusses. The goal: quantify the ways in which offsite manufactured wall panels benefit the builder and framer on the jobsite, as well as how open web floor trusses speed the installation of HVAC mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP). A panel of the study’s participants will explore the empirical data collected and shed light on how the use of manufactured wall panels and floor trusses accelerated the various trades’ installation schedules, and ultimately made the builder more profitable.
