In today’s technological age, scams and fraudulent emails are more prevalent than ever. Scammers have become increasingly good at creating fake emails that appear to come from trusted sources or people you may know, making it harder to distinguish between legitimate messages and phishing attempts. However, there are ways to verify the authenticity of an email to protect yourself from falling victim to these scams.

In the video below, SBCA Executive Director, Jess Lohse, discusses what we’re currently seeing to help shed some light on the situation and provide guidance on how to identify and avoid these scams.

Recently, we have seen several SBCA Board of Director members targeted by these deceptive emails. So, we want to raise awareness so that everyone can make informed decisions when reviewing emails and avoid clicking on suspicious links or attachments that could compromise personal or organizational security.

If you’re unsure of the validity of an email you’ve received from SBCA, an SBCA member, or a person/company affiliated with SBCA (or really any email you receive), please contact the sender via phone to check before opening, responding, or clicking on anything.
