It’s back! The National Framers Council (NFC) is hosting its annual contest during OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls campaign, May 6-10, 2024. Since 2012, OSHA has partnered with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) – Construction Sector on the Fall Prevention Campaign to raise awareness among workers and employers about common fall hazards in construction, and how falls from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs can be prevented.
To support the 2024 National Safety Stand-Down, we encourage our members to participate in both the National Stand-Down and the NFC Annual Toolbox Talk Contest.
Here’s how it works:
- Download the five (5) NFC Fall Protection Toolbox Talks.
- Go through one toolbox talk each day for the week of the 2024 Safety Stand-Down.
- Sign-off and submit all five (5) completed Toolbox Talks to NFC.
- Take photos of your Toolbox Talk Activities.
- Submit your photos to info@sbcacomponents.com or via the online form by May 24, 2024.
- Fill out the Photo Release Form.
Photos will be reviewed and judged by the NFC Steering Committee; the most creative (but safe) photo will be awarded the 2024 Stand-Down Prize Package.
This campaign is important, as fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 378 of the 986 construction fatalities recorded in 2021 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.
A Safety Stand-Down is a voluntary event for employers to talk directly to employees about safety. Any workplace can hold a stand-down by taking a break to focus on "Fall Hazards" and reinforcing the importance of "Fall Prevention". Learn more about how you can do that on your jobsite, here.
