Tom Valvo

Tom Valvo is an Associate Representative of the SBCA Board of Directors. He has been involved with the components industry for 32 years; his initial involvement with SBCA was through joining the MiTek team and going to his first BCMC in the early 90s. Over the years, he has found a lot of value in being a member of the association and is excited that he is at a stage in his career where he can give back to the industry that has given him so much.

This industry is comprised of many good, genuine, and intelligent people, who are down to earth, relatable, and fun – that is one of Tom’s favorite parts about it. Tom feels that SBCA does a great job of creating opportunities to have these relationships. He enjoys how these events bring people together from all corners of the nation to share in successes, challenges and potential solutions, and to network and communicate about what is going on in the overall industry. “I have learned so much and have been able to share a lot which is what I really enjoy,” says Tom. “This industry and SBCA have such a good group of people, I am grateful to be a part of it.”

One of Tom’s passions is to expand the adoption of components in the market. As a member of the SBCA Board of Directors, Tom’s goals are for SBCA to continue investing in growing the demand and awareness for components as the best way to build and utilizing SBCA’s Framing the American Dream study to collect usable data to communicate facts about building with components.

Tom earned his bachelor’s degree in Business from Indiana University and his MBA from Washington University – St. Louis. After graduating college in 1988, he worked in the steel industry as a sales representative with US Steel, which helped Tom gain experience and a better understanding of the market. Four years later, Tom’s tenure with MiTek began. Starting in the marketing department, Tom progressed through a series of executive roles including Division General Manager, Group President, Chief Operating Officer, President-Global Residential, and his current role, President -Corporate Accounts. In this role, his focus is on strategy, crafting programs to support mutual growth, relationship management, and investing in development opportunities and innovation.

Tom has been married to his wife, Linda, for 33 years, and together they have two sons, Christian (28) and Thomas, Jr. (26). In his free time, he enjoys traveling, wine appreciation, golf, landscaping, spending time with family, and fitness. He is a huge dog lover, having three dogs: two goldendoodles, Louie and Enzo, and one rescue dog, Lucy. Tom can be reached at info@sbcacomponents.com.
